This includes a healthy blend of heirloom processes, natural dyeing, and work made both by hand and machine. Job Description
We are seeking a part-time Sewing Machine Operator to join our team to help produce a line of meditation cushions, textile products, and other goods we carry. This role involves cutting heavy canvas fabric and operating industrial sewing machines to create upholstered cushions, bags, and assorted products for our store.
Responsibilities
- Operate industrial sewing machines to sew various materials including heavy canvas fabric, linen canvas, cottons, and raw silks
Cut and measure fabric using scissors, electric fabric cutters, and other tools of the trade. - Monitor machines for problems and adjust settings as necessary
Inspect finished products for defects and ensure they meet quality standards - Maintain a clean and organized work area
Requirements
- Prior experience in sewing preferred, preferably with industrial machines
- Ability to read and understand sewing patterns and instructions
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and precision
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Interest in meditation or contemplative traditions preferred
*Increased starting pay rate available for applicants with experience in design, pattern-making and/or sample-making.
Skills Assessment
As part of the interview process, candidates will be required to demonstrate their sewing skills through a brief skills assessment. This will involve completing a sewing task on an industrial machine in our workshop.
